I love vinyl records – especially if they come wrapped in stylish packaging

Which is why I was drawn to the artwork for this Shy and the Fight single as soon as I saw it

It’s the first release by Wales-based indie label Popty Ping, designed by Leicester-based Daniel Orton

Firstly, it’s orange

Secondly, it’s important to know ‘popty ping’ is Welsh slang for ‘microwave’ – which means suddenly the logo and ‘Consumer Instructions’ on the back of the sleeve (probably my favourite bit of the design) makes a little more sense

This is Ping 001, with the second release currently being plotted – Ping 002 will be a different band and different colour, but keep the basic design

There’s definitely a Factory Records feel to it all

Very clever indeed

(Oh, and the music is lovely too…)
