Make: Super Simple Christmas Cards

Christmas cards by B

Hello – B here!

I don’t have the most successful track record with making cards

Although I like to think my parents have simply “appreciated the effort” when I was younger, once you get past the age of about 14 you can only get away with so much

I always have mixed feelings when it comes to giving cards anyway – it can seem like needless tree wasting sometimes

Which is why when it comes to writing birthday/leaving/good luck notes, it can take me a good few minutes/hours/days to come up with a suitable message

It’s all about getting the most out of the paper

But to return to the point of this post – I’ve been making Christmas cards!

And to best avoid disaster I’ve made it simple – paper, ribbon, bells, DONE

And in more detail…

Hardly deserves a ‘how to’ – it’s that simple

You will need…

  • Card (I cheated and bought pre-folded and cut cards from The Works, 2op each)
  • Bits of paper
  • Ribbon
  • Bells (mine were sold as table decorations)
  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors
  • Stick o’ glue
  • Cookie cutter (or make your own template – I can’t draw)

It’s pretty clear how to make the cards just by looking at them, but here’s a few things I learnt…

  1. Thread the ribbon through the very thin slit in the cards BEFORE sewing the bells on
  2. Don’t use a pen that smudges when drawing round template
  3. This is an excellent way to use up wrapping paper off-cuts and old magazines (I cannot walk past a pile of free music mags without picking one up)
  4. Think about your audience – Dad likes crosswords = Christmas tree shaped hole appears in puzzle page
  5. I can talk and cut/stick – unlike baking

Do you have any quick card recipes?
